Soo first post on the forum. What way to start than by asking you guys what your favorite Starfy game is
Mine? Easy, Densetsu no stafy 3. The game improved its predecessors in so many ways. It also has the best storyline in the franchise and probably one of the better stories I have seen in a plattformer imo. The ending tho. So sad yet so sweet.

What game did you guys like the most I love Densetsu no Starfy 2 best. I personally really like all of the Starfy games, although I don't like the fifth game as much. I think Densetsu no Starfy 2 has great levels, a lot of extra ones when you clear the game and a nice cheerful storyline. I have also always loved the trick in a couple of levels with trick doors in the Game Boy Advance games where since entering up and swimming up share the same button (up on the D-pad) you have to be careful not to enter it. Densetsu no Starfy 3 is my third favourite Starfy game. I agree that the story is great. Very sweet and emotional ending.

I really like the games as well with the expection of the fifth one. It was decent but not as good as the others. Its kinda to the franchise what Gates to Infinity is to Pokemon mystery dungeon imo
I agree with this ^^
The ending of the third game is one of the few times when I have cried legitly because of a game

I really like the games as well with the expection of the fifth one. It was decent but not as good as the others. Its kinda to the franchise what Gates to Infinity is to Pokemon mystery dungeon imo I agree with this ^^ The ending of the third game is one of the few times when I have cried legitly because of a game Yeah, I personally agree with that comparison (although I haven't played Gates to Infinity before). (Covered spoilers in white text) Yes. I felt sad when Ogura died, I know of someone else who cried too. The expressions in that scene affected me. I like how the Starfy series is light-hearted, but feel when you think about some of the story themes (in particular Starfy 3's story), they can be pretty deep, with Starfy 3 being especially deep. Some people think of Starfy as childish and for a younger audience, but I beg to differ and the games are fun. I wish that the first four games were translated because the Japanese means I don't really know the story well enough and there could be interesting themes in it; I think the stories in 1-4 are more interesting than in 5. Starfy 3 brought up moral ambiguity. Ogura (at first glance an "evil" demon banished to a jar) likes to cause mischief and terrorize Starfy, but I feel deep down he just wants to feel appreciated. Ogura was very loyal to Evil, but Evil doesn't treat him particularly well. I feel that upbringing is a theme here. Once when Ogura was late, he said "おそかったではないか オーグラよ。。。" ("Why were you slow Ogura?...", with よ being a particle of strong assertion). He replied "もうしわけありません イーブルさま..." to Evil which is a highly polite way of saying sorry, but Ogura was not able to conquer Pufftop in the past after years, ranging back to when Papa Star defeated Ogura and trapped him in the jar. Evil powered up Ogura, but this hurt him. Ogura didn't want to give up, and has great perseverance being trapped in the jar wanting to break free. But in Starfy 3, it is revealed that he had suppressed anger, when he smashed the pots belonging to the Burako because they reminded him of living in the jar and his anger about losing to Papa Star. And at the end of the game, Ogura showed that he has a heart, he recognized that Evil had gone too far and actually told Starfy and friends to remember him. Starfy 2 touched on the importance of family too, with Ogura having ten children and kidnapping Mama Star. One of The Pufftop Legends (stories about past games told in Pufftop in The Legendary Starfy) says "You know, I think this tale is really about the importance of connections between people!". Would you guys say that the worst Starfy game is still a good game? I think it is. I like its cute plush style character designs and story (although I think the previous games have better stories and I feel that it would be good if characters like Herman and Old Man Lobber recognized Starfy from previous games). The areas (levels) are good, but I feel that the previous games had levels that were more fun. The Legendary Starfy has some good minigames like other games in the series (1-3). In particular, Dumpling Master is very fun. These are some of the reasons why I like the other games: *I like Starfy 1 because at a first glance it's simplistic with a short story prior to completion; however after you beat the game there is quite a lot to do. The stages have dynamic designs. After you beat the game you can break the red "Seal Blocks" with your Star Spin to explore new areas of the stage, and you can collect 4-6 different treasures for each one. Some of those treasures require you to find a vehicle in the stage (such as the Mole Tank) in order to unlock it and use the vehicle to explore a new area. You can re-visit Wotsaruto and unlock the Sea Jams (sound test), which I think was a nice way to unlock it rather than enabling it as soon as you beat the game. *I like Starfy 4 as it has a nice story. The boss battles are really fun (as are the ones in other games). The different level design and map was an interesting change which I don't like as much as the other games (no bottomless pits) but like and I like the Tobira Majin riddles after you beat the game, which let you access completely new parts of an existing area. You get an Answers Card, use it (or one of several Answers Cards) to answer a riddle at Tobira Majin in existing stages, and then at the end of the stage you may find another Answers Card that is one of the answers for a riddle of a different area. Starfy 4 has a numerical health system, which I think is great. Certain enemies will deal different amounts of damage. You can increase your health points by collecting spherical bumped objects called Konpeitou, and if you don't collect them, you can make the game more challenging if you like.

I havent played Gates either but from what I heard it wasnt that good as the others both gameplay- and storywise. It wasnt as dumbed down as say Sticker star, but it was lacking. Oh well at least PSMD seems to fix the biggest issues people had with gates. Thats good
I cried at the end of the third game and I know a friend of mine (the one who watched the lp of the third one as i mentoinef in skype) cried as well.
Thats honestly my favorite aspect in the franchise imo.
I 100% agree with this statement. Its a shame there arent even fantranslations. Oh well
I thinl the theme of stafy 3 (moral ambioguty) is a reason I liked the game so much. I love when stories have a deeper meaning or a lesson to teach, even in something as simple and mundane as video games. Dns 3 had good theme and its not spmething we see in (Nintendo) games every day.
You pretty much explained why I like the third games story and theme so much (and to a lesser extenct why Ogura is my favorite character in the franchise),buddy. I have nothing else to add here
As for Rainy, yes the legendary Starfy is a good game even if its the weakest. Its a cute and charming plattformer and while not as rich in content as the first four games or as deep as Stafy 3 its still a fun experience in its own right.

I did not know that Starfy 4 had a numerical health system, that sounds interesting. That kind of gives the game an HP system similar to many RPGs. It sounds even better because you can avoid the points to make the game harder. Which is the hardest Starfy then?
I like cute styles, so Starfy checks out as good in my book.

Oh well at least PSMD seems to fix the biggest issues people had with gates. Thats good *Nods*. Some people complain about a different game in a franchise that wasn't what they expected, but I feel that having a new game in a series is better than not having one at all, and that different games can introduce interesting new features; like how The Legendary Starfy have great manga style cutscenes, and the time trials in stage 10, as well as the fun Dumpling Master minigame. Additionally, a game that isn't as good is often still a fun game even if it is not often viewed to be fun as the others. I cried at the end of the third game and I know a friend of mine (the one who watched the lp of the third one as i mentoinef in skype) cried as well. Yes, it's very powerful. I'm happy that the game brought up a life lesson like that. I love how Ogura can be seen in the sky looking content with the Puchi Ogura, and Moe raises his glass to him. In fact, I think another important theme in Starfy 3 is respect, and how our most important need is just to feel appreciated. Ogura was loyal to Evil, but deep down maybe he did not respect him, he became a slave to Evil's expectations and this brought him emotional distress when he could not fulfill them. Evil also showed little effort in helping Ogura; they did not really team up unlike the close relationship between Bowser and Bowser Jr. Though Starfy and co. were Ogura's enemies, I personally feel that Ogura secretly looked up to the Legendary Starfy, Starly, as his nemesis and that he had a far stronger heart than Evil. Thats honestly my favorite aspect in the franchise imo. Cool. I 100% agree with this statement. Its a shame there arent even fantranslations. Oh well Yes. Actually an attempt to translate Densetsu no Starfy was started. I have the tools that Spikeman, Normmatt provided. I tried to translate the introduction relatively recently with my limited Japanese. I was going to record this, but wanted to translate the title screen too and couldn't find out how so to my fault, the video sadly never surfaced. Here are some screenshots. I will make a video of it later. You pretty much explained why I like the third games story and theme so much (and to a lesser extenct why Ogura is my favorite character in the franchise),buddy. I have nothing else to add here Happy it helped you reflect on why you like it buddy. As for Rainy, yes the legendary Starfy is a good game even if its the weakest. Its a cute and charming plattformer and while not as rich in content as the first four games or as deep as Stafy 3 its still a fun experience in its own right. Starfy and Bunston are super cute. The gameplay, style and register of some of the dialogue is more laid-back, playful compared to previous games, so some people may not like the game as much in that respect and consider it as a game for a younger audience. But I like it, and still think it's a good game.

Maybe Starfy 2 or 3. I remember losing all my hearts various times in the Pitch Dark Cave stage from Starfy 2, and the true last bosses in those two games (and 4) are relatively challenging. But if you avoid all of the Konpeitou in Starfy 4, then it may become a challenging game. My friend Kagegamer12 was also talking about that. I'd like to try such a run one day. It's a subjective thing, but I think that the difficulty in the Legendary Starfy series is not necessarily "easy", more like just right. But often the Mermaids that let you save and restore all of your health can be found not that much distance in between each other.

Just for the record, I do not factor difficulty in when I determine the quality of a game, so this was merely a question and not something that would make or break the series for me. Kirby often gets accused of being too easy, but I love the series and consider the difficulty just right. Easy to beat, but harder to get all items.
Thanks for answering my questions, buddy. Maybe you could make a Let's Play run or something like a low HP challenge.

Kirby also has an Extra Mode where things are a bit harder, and then finding all the items like Keychains in Triple Deluxe was quite challenging. I actually hate when people dismiss a game on the basic of being too easy.

I prefer difficult games, but I don't mind easy games. Games that are too hard are frustrating and games that are too easy are boring.
Kirby games were a pretty in-between difficulty for me honestly.

I like both super easy games and super difficult games. Monster Hunter is my hard series, along with Siren. Kirby is something I play to relax. It really depends on my mood, I suppose.
How was EarthBound for you, Xan? Too hard or too easy?
